Our volunteers are friendly caring people who may have experienced the need for help and support themselves and understand the need for discretion and privacy.
Benefits
Our service provides an opportunity for the carers to have someone to talk to outside the family unit or to have free time away from their sometimes stressful and emotional role.
Organisation
Hospice at Home Volunteers is a registered charity, established in the community in 1995. The Charity offers a free, confidential service, to families living with a terminal or life limiting illness.
Patients and their families that I have referred to the Hospice at Home Volunteer service have been extremely grateful for the kind support and time provided by the volunteers.
A gentleman I have been supporting recently, who lived alone, spoke about how his volunteer was his lifeline, he said ‘I look forward to her visit every week, it’s my lifeline’.
The volunteer would read to him which was very important after losing his ability to read words, which was something he used in everyday life before his illness, as a writer. Which make you fully understand why such a small act meant the world to him.
